MENTAL HEALTH EMOTIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM
The Haitians Community Partners Foundation, Inc. (HCP) is committed to addressing the psychological challenges and traumas that migrants face during their resettlement and travels. Understanding the critical need for mental health support, we have initiated the Mental Health Emotional Support Program, a comprehensive effort designed to provide immediate and compassionate assistance to those experiencing mental health or substance use-related crises.
This training covers:
- Risk Factors Identification: Learning about the various risk factors and warning signs associated with mental health issues and substance use disorders.
- Crisis and Non-Crisis Support Strategies: Developing strategies to assist individuals effectively in both crisis situations and ongoing support scenarios.
- Resource Navigation: Understanding how to guide individuals to appropriate professional help, support groups, and community resources.
Program Objectives:
The Mental Health Emotional Support Program aims to:
- Provide Immediate Assistance: Offer first-line support to individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring they receive timely and effective help.
- Educate and Empower: Increase awareness among our community members about mental health and substance use issues, including how to recognize signs of distress in themselves and others.
- Strengthen Community Support: Foster a supportive environment where individuals feel safe to seek help and share their experiences without fear of stigma.
Why It Matters:
Migrants often face unique psychological challenges due to the stresses of resettlement and the trauma of their journeys. Our program acknowledges these difficulties and seeks to provide a safety net through:
- Emotional Support: Offering a compassionate listening ear and emotional support to those struggling with mental health challenges.
- Crisis Intervention: Providing immediate assistance and intervention for individuals in crisis, helping to stabilize situations and prevent harm.
- Guidance and Referral: Assisting individuals in navigating the complex landscape of mental health services and connecting them with the resources they need for recovery and healing.
