HCP joins the Massachusetts Emergency Shelter SafeyNet
As reported by Governor Maura Healey, the state’s Emergency Assistance (EA) family shelter system has expanded at an unsustainable rate, more than doubling the caseload over the past year. Last month, Governor Healey announced that the state does not have enough shelter units, service providers, or funding to safely and responsibly expand shelter capacity beyond approximately 7,500 families – expected to be reached by this Wednesday or Thursday. There are currently 7,439 families enrolled in emergency shelters across the state.
HCP has joined the call to provide congregate space to those needing shelter. This cannot be done without the support of the private sector housing market, churches, social centers, and everyday families. The need is now! HCP will pay the rent for the use of space. We want to rent from you if you have any space with a bathroom within the space’s perimeter. The space will be used for CORI-reviewed families with children and pregnant people.
